Ours is a hobby that ebbs and flows. There are years when other dimensions of our adventures take priority over our love for the amateur radio art. Such was the case for much of my time as a telecommunications executive. Nearly 9 years ago, Brian, N5ZGT, inspired me to bring ham radio back to the forefront of my life. And it’s been a central part of it ever since.
I’ve continued my association with the Rocky Mountain Hams group from afar. Technologies like D-Star, D-Rats and DMR make that a breeze. And it’s been great fun running school club round-up and sweepstakes at our historic Michigan State University club station, W8SH.
The ARRL has been a common thread throughout. I had the privilege of volunteering with the headquarters crew at the League’s Dayton presence several years ago, got to know the RSGB leadership there and discovered some common career trajectories with League COO Harold Kramer, WJ1B. League CEO Dave Sumner, K1ZZ is a fellow Spartan.
So I was deeply honored when President, Kay Craigie, N3Kn invited me to serve on the League’s PR committee with the king of Radiosport, Sean Kutzko, KX9X, at the helm. The League is, as ever, at the forefront of the communications art and I look forward to being part of it’s continuing evolution.
