Remembering Cyrlena Aldrich

By Colleen Aldrich Westerman
As some of you know, we recently learned that my sweet mom had liver cancer, a metastasis of the breast cancer she beat several years ago. Her time to battle was a short one, only about 2 months. She passed away around 1am on November 22 in Houghton Lake, MI in the same nursing home where my dad resides. The nurses there took great care of her. They knew her well because she was with my dad every day. I had been there almost 4 weeks out of the past 6, leaving just yesterday morning. As you can imagine we are sad at not having her here with us any longer but are so grateful she didn’t have to suffer a prolonged fight like my sister Anita did several years ago.

The picture is the last one (I believe) to be taken of mom and daddy. He was home from the nursing home for a visit last month and they were having a good day.

Art and Cyrlena Aldrich lived in Haslett, MI for 17 years and knew many people there. Mom was known for her love of cooking and baking and spoiled everyone who came in contact with her with something yummy to eat. She was completely devoted to us, her family, above all else and so enjoyed traveling and visiting friends.

She joins my sister Anita and my brother Paul and will, no doubt be cooking Thanksgiving dinner for a much larger crowd this year.
