Katherine Hepburn on Friends

We have many acquaintances, but very few true friends.

“Friends are like miracles,” Katharine Hepburn told James Grissom in 1990. “They happen very rarely, and you’re lucky to have one or two in your lifetime. A friend is there for a long time and through a lot of bad times, and can explain the true meaning of a good time. They keep your head on straight. They get you off the rocks and back into the water.”

We live in a disposable society, where a person’s value is proportional to what they can do for you in the moment.

If you find a true friend, treasure them. They are as rare as precious gems and worth more than fame or fortune can buy.
