One Day at a Time

Mignon McLaughlin Reminds us, “The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next.”

Capability is a game of inches forward, coupled with events conspiring to kick you miles backward. The rules and tools change. Entire career fields evolve. Some disappear as new opportunities emerge. The distant light at the end of the tunnel may flicker.

Clarity of purpose is the foundation of faith. Resilience and perseverance will ultimately propel you toward your goal, one day at a time.

“Happiness,” writes Germany Kent, “is achieved when you stop waiting for your life to begin and start making the most of the moment you are in.”

Some days, “the most” might not feel like much. Celebrate anyway.

There is an Alex Noble quote next to my computer which keeps me centered when my to-do list feels untenable and the depression gene kicks in.

“If I have been of service, if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action, if I am at peace with myself, it has been a successful day.”

In the uncertainty of the present day, moral compasses struggle to find True North. Navigate by the constellations of character and kindness which still guide generations in the right direction… One day at a time.
